Speaker encourages a Digital Wellness Checkup

Josie Ahlquist tells students to step back and take a critical look at their digital identity. An international leadership speaker, Ahlquist advises students to take an objective view of everything they post, share and comment on and consider how that could affect their future.

Ahlquist will present a “Digital Wellness Checkup,” at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 10, in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The free program, which is sponsored by PSU Prevention and Wellness, Greek Life, and Gorillas in Your Midst, is open to PSU students and the general public.

Ahlquist is a student affairs educator who specializes in the intersection of digital communication technology and leadership development. She holds undergraduate degrees in sociology and also human development and family studies from South Dakota State University, a master’s degree in counseling from Northern Arizona University and an Ed. D. from California Lutheran University.

For the past three years, Ed Tech magazine has named Ahlquist to its “Top 50 Must-Read Higher Education Technology Blogs.”

In her presentations, Ahlquist urges students to question how the outside world might perceive them through their digital profiles. She recommends that they Google their names, in the same way that potential employers do so.

Ahlquist tells students she wants them to continue to have fun on social media, but also wants them to understand both the dangers inherent in the technology as well as the digital tools they can use to enhance their online reputations.
