PR major, auto tech minor perfect combo for PSU junior

But there’s one part of the automobile industry she loves the most.

“I’m fascinated with how cars are presented and sold,” she said. “I love the marketing behind them. I love how cars are made to look so good at car shows.”

Gire is combining her passion for marketing and automotive technology while attending Pittsburg State University. The junior from Nevada, Mo., is majoring in communication with an emphasis in public relations while minoring in automotive technology.

“It’s not a major/minor combination you see every day,” Gire said. “For me, it’s an opportunity to prepare for a career in the public relations side of the automotive industry. This lets me learn about both realms. I figure if I’m going to be working to present and sell cars, I should probably have a good understanding of how they work.”

Gire said the state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on learning opportunities in the Kansas Technology Center have helped her gain extensive knowledge about the automotive industry.

“We’re very lucky at Pitt State to have this type of facility on campus,” Gire said of the KTC. “We’re able to get our hands on real-life problems in various areas of automotive technology. For me, that’s the best way to learn.”

Gire also praised the Communication Department faculty for their passion and knowledge in their field.

“My public relations teachers really know their stuff, and I know I’ll graduate from PSU with a tremendous amount of knowledge in both the PR and automotive industry,” she said. “That’s exactly why I chose to attend PSU. I knew I could get both.”
