Mitt Romney to speak at PSU Feb. 28

Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts and 2012 Republican nominee for president, will be the next speaker in Pittsburg State University’s H. Lee Scott Speaker Series. Romney will speak at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall of the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Romney is the second national figure in the H. Lee Scott Speaker Series, which began with an address by former president Bill Clinton. The series was established at PSU in 2015 as a result of a $2.079 million gift made by PSU alumnus and former Walmart CEO Lee Scott and his wife, Linda.

In making the announcement this morning, PSU President Steve Scott said the speaker series and the Bicknell Center have had a big impact in a short time. He said it is a mission that goes back to the founding of the university.

“For 114 years, Pittsburg State University has been in the business of changing and enriching lives – of its students, the people in this community and throughout the region,” Scott said.

Kathleen Flannery, vice president for university advancement, said students will be given the first opportunity to obtain tickets for Romney’s address.

Student tickets, which are $10 and must be purchased in person, will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, at the Ticket Office in the Garfield Weede Building. Students must have their student ID with them to purchase their ticket. Students can purchase one additional ticket, at listed prices. Everyone entering the event with a student ticket must also have their student ID with them for admission to the event.

PSU faculty and staff may purchase discounted tickets in person, with ID, at the Ticket Office beginning on Thursday, February 9. Faculty/staff tickets range from $30 to $40. They may also purchase one additional ticket at listed prices.

Tickets for the general public will go on sale on February 13 and range from $35 to $45. They may be purchased in person, online or by phone. Members of the public may purchase up to four tickets.

The mission of the H. Lee Scott Speaker Series is to deepen the level of discourse, enrich the university experience, and elevate the university’s reputation by examining American life from the perspective of nationally prominent leaders and innovators.
